Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is home to over 2,500 head of bison PLUS it is also the ranch where Ben Johnson — cowboy actor — spent his youth! Yes, Ben would even bring his friend, John Wayne, home with him! Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve.

The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is a gorgeous place to hike and watch birds. The bison weren’t out when we were there but it was still a great trip. The wind in the grass was like being on an ocean. We saw owls, hawks, coyote, and numerous other bird species.
